THE HISTORY OF BANNERMAN’S ISLAND

Join us on Thursday, October 19 at 7:00 pm in the Marlboro Library community room to learn about a local Hudson Valley landmark, Bannerman’s Island.  For generations, boaters and train passengers have been mystified by the sight of Bannerman Castle, looming on a small island in the Hudson River. Visiting authors, Wes and Barbara Gottlock will discuss their book Bannerman Castle, which unveils the history of this site as an arsenal built to resemble Scottish castles.  Today, it is a major tourist attraction in the Mid-Hudson Valley Region, offering not only history tours, but various forms of live entertainment.

Wes and Barbara have lectured extensively throughout the New York City metropolitan area in recent years. Both are active volunteers with Bannerman Island.  Wes is an island docent and coordinates all the public tours that come to the island, while Barbara is on the Bannerman Castle Trust board of directors and coordinates the island's volunteers. They both participate in river clean-up projects and fundraisers benefitting various Hudson River causes.  They also find enough time to spend with their two children and seven grandchildren.  Wes and Barbara reside in New Windsor overlooking the majestic Hudson.

RSVP at marlborolibrary.org, walk-ins welcome.
