GILDED AGE SCANDALS

Join us at the Library on Thursday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. for a one of a kind presentation.  Don Fraser, Educator at Staatsburgh State Historic Site (Mills Mansion) will tell the true stories that made millionaires blush at the turn of the 20th century.

Heiresses for sale, an outraged brother horsewhips his sister’s fiancé, the very public murder of a celebrity…and what did the new American bride notice about the village children near her aristocratic husband’s castle?

Staatsburgh’s owners, Ruth and Ogden Mills, were models of respectability – but their Gilded Age friends were not!  We’ll explore the scandals that filled the Society Pages 100 years ago…and recount one or two stories that were too racy for the newspapers.

Don Fraser creates school programs and special programs for adults at Staatsburgh, an 1895 mansion near Hyde Park, NY.  His programs include “Tales of the Titanic,” “World War I and the End of the Gilded Age,” as well as “Gilded Age Scandals.”  Light refreshments will be offered.

Walk-ins welcome, RSVP to let us know you’re coming.
